The constant walking along those long, long roads has an almost hypnotic effect. It is my experience that even children with sleeping problems cannot help falling asleep.

This is the best children's story that I have ever read. Children will love having this ebook read to them. Great Illustrations and well written by a great author.

What an effective story! I was reading it for a three year old child of a friend of mine and the child was asleep after half the story. I read the rest and was ready to fall asleep myself...Same thing happened next evening.

Unfortunately, not as good as the first book

O.K. so, if I am buying into the thesis of this author, and this book, that the heads of the world's most prestigious countries...... including the President of The United States, would "thin out" the population of the planet... . through stuff like "Aids"..... and "Swine Flu"..... and however many more ways there are to arbitrarily kill off as much of the world's population.....there are (of course we start with people who matter the least..... those black people in Africa).. If you buy that..... you will like this book. (because.....food.... and water shortages will cause "WAR") which also happens to kill a lot of people..... (JMHO.)

I don't..... and, I didn't. It was a rainy summer afternoon, and it was something to pass the time. Enjoyed Mr. Woods' first Jack Randall...... but not this one. One thing I have to give him.... he has a wonderfully vivid imagination. I wouldn't recommend this one..... to anybody...... except as a need to pass time.

Randall Wood gives a great believable story. the plot line is great,especially in today's world. there are a few slow spots going thru what the files contain, but it adds to the terrible nature of what mankind can do. this leaves you wondering if it could not be true in life???

definitely recommend read for anyone wanting a good action read.

look forward to reading more from Mr.Wood.

Jack Randall #2 is Excellent!

Another good book from Randall Wood! Many of the characters from Book #1 continue in this series. Excellent action sequences, a believable plot, and terrific characterization of the main people involved. I continue to be impressed with the depth of knowledge of the author; he adds enough procedural detail to explain but doesn't get so wrapped up that it becomes boring (Tom Clancy comes to mind). I liked this book and the ending with the use of fast setting concrete is genius. Highly recommend. Now getting ready for Scarcity, the next in the series.

Little Different Story

I like that the story is on Kindle so I can use my smartboard to show it to my Pre-K students. However, it's a little different from the traditional version and the storyline is a bit stilted. The pictures are only so-so, also. I will give it a try with my students to see if it holds their attention, but I'm guessing this one will go in the delete queue.

This charming if uneven Edwardian from Marks (Geek to Chic) opens as Miss Larissa Quinn completes her education and journeys to Westmoreland estate to become the companion to an aunt she doesn't know. On arriving at an inn, Larissa, spys a handsome gentleman, and claims that the two are newlyweds in order to secure the last remaining room. Once settled, it takes a little convincing to get the man, Sir Randall Trent, to go on with the charade. After a chaste night, the two board the coach assuming that no one will be the wiser and that they will never meet again. But Larissa's very undoddering aunt eschews dull country life for the London season, and when Larissa and Sir Randall inevitably meet, their marriage slips out of their control—leading to unpleasant and possibly deadly consequences. The lovers don't quite come into focus and often seem not to know whether to fight or kiss, but the inventive plot carries them along with sweet abandon.

This reader's quandary.

I've been reading Regency romance for decades and have a high tolerance for boring plots if the characters are well defined and the love story is romantic and not exasperating. For the first half of this book I had no idea where the mystery was that other reviewers had talked about and found the characters so shallow and so unappealing and the romance so contrived that I almost put it down.

But I persevered, hoping to get to that mystery, and, yes, it finally arrived. That made the reading tolerable but still not good, because the characters themselves failed to develop more depth.

It's a clean love story and perhaps that's the reason it has received so many high-star reviews. I like clean romance and I like spicy romance (as long as the sex does not overwhelm the plot), so that didn't enter into my evaluation. I just took into consideration my reading experience. Was it enjoyable? Not very because of the lack of depth in plot and characters and a great deal of annoying anachronistic behavior.

Pandora's Platitudes

Miss Quinn is going to live with an elderly aunt after finishing school. She meets Randall at an inn Randall is on the way to visit his uncle. They pretend to be married spend the night together and travel together the next day. The Aunt is not elderly, the uncle is seeking a wife, Miss Quinn and Randall meet again in London where all kinds of interesting events occur. Randall finds stolen jewelery in his possession, is arrested, is shot. Well you get the idea. Excellent Read

Based on a very modern idea of what life might have been like "back then."

I honestly could not believe the initial premise: the kind of girls' boarding school from which Miss Quinn has just graduated would spend a fair bit of time on perspectives that would not lead to Miss Quinn's initial actions on which the rest of the story is based. After this, if you are looking for historical fiction, skip this one. If you are looking for a quick (historical, sort of) ROMANCE, then you should enjoy this work. You do have to be able to suspend disbelief for more than the usual number of coincidences and misunderstandings.

Renting vs. Buying

I tried renting for the first time. I don't know if it is the best way to go. I feel as though I need to put the book in some sort of protective case. Also, the professor wants us to write in the book for reference. So, I guess it all depends on the class and how good you are at taking care of your book.
