The Companion Bible is STILL one of THE BEST study Bibles on the market, bar none. It does take some time to learn how to use, but once the reader has comprehended the outlines, and the special indexing into the marginal notes, they will discover it is still one of the best Bible helps on the market today. Very few others even comes close, including very sophisticated computer versions. As you read the KJV text, there are notations that tell you when Bullinger has something to say about the verse or word noted. These comments are in the side bar next to the KJV text. These 'notes' help you to break the bible down into an organized outline, often revealing a deeper meaning in the texts.

The appendices included are small essays and charts explaining everything from Greek grammar, to Hebrew customs and figures of speech. You simply cannot understand any bible unless you fully read and understand Bullinger's appendices. Be warned that some appendices contain information that is controversial. Rest assured, however, that Bullinger offers biblical and historical proof for each of his statements. Judge for yourself if these have any merit.

E.W. Bullinger never really wanted his name associated with this bible so as to let his work, not his name, speak for itself. His comments in the Companion Bible reflect the time period in which he lived (late 1800's) and offer insight into many Christian theories that were new in his time, but to us now seem old. The rapture theory and the gap theory being two of these.

Print way too small and it has no appendixes

I would rate the kindle version of this book with the lowest rating possible. It looks like someone just scanned each of the pages of the books in the Companion Bible and put them up for sale on the kindle site. For one, the print is too small (Even when you zoom in on it with its only one zoom) to read comfortably. If they just scanned it, I do not know why they did not use the large print version of The Companion Bible. It would have come out much better. Second, there are no appendixes included. It was the appendixes in the hard copy of the book that gave it most of its value. There is a treasure on knowledge in the appendixes on the hard copy which I would rate with 5 stars or the highest rating available. I purchased a number of the individual books and after I noticed the big problems with them, I called in for a refund and the books were deleted from my Kindle. The hard copy isn't horribly expensive and is well worth owning a copy for those who love to study The Bible. You can even order the large print hardcover version from Amazon for around $41.00. The regular small print hardcover version goes for around $35.00. I have a regular print copy with a nice leather cover. I do not think that those are available from Amazon. Again, I would give the hardcopy version of the book five stars or the highest amount of stars available. The individual books in Kindle versions of The Companion Bible cost around $2.88 each and there are 66 books in the Bible. It would cost nearly $200 for all of the books together plus you would not have the appendixes. So you would save at least $150 if you puchased the large print hardcopy plus you would have all of the appendixes, whereas the Kindle version has none.....................

Terrible! i want my money back!

It is not usable. The print is too small and there is not way to make it larger because (apparently) this was just scanned in like a pdf file . And Amazon wants alot of money for this poor product if one wants the entire Companion Bible. The Companion Bible in hardback form is great. I have used it for over 30 years but this kindle version is awful. Don't waste your money!

About the Author
George MacDonald was a Scottish author and minister best known for his fairy tales and fantasy novels. A theologian, MacDonald was pastor of Trinity Congregational Church in Arundel before moving to London to teach at the University of London. MacDonald s work influenced many fantasy writers including J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Madeleine L Engle; he is recognized as a mentor to Lewis Carroll and heavily influenced Carroll s decision to submit Alice s Adventures in Wonderland for publication. MacDonald was a prolific writer, and penned such fantasy classics as Phantastes, The Princess and the Goblin, and Lillith. George MacDonald died in 1905.
